Scale 1:50,000 Index map 65.5 x 95cm, hand coloured engraving. The map shows the sheet layout for a coalfield atlas. It includes coal out crops, dips and the areas of different coal concessions. Flat with old centre fold. Slight wear along fold, minor marginal tears with past tape repairs, otherwise in good condition.

Text mounted on reverse of each panel. Unfortunate crayon colour to highlight lithological abbreviations, but adds to legibility Otherwise, in clean good condition. With original slip-case covered in marbled paper, very worn but intact and in fair condition. Mont Dore lies to the north of the volcanic Puy de Dom area.

Southeast quarter of map issued in four sheets. The maps covers le Valois et le Multien with an inset plan de Beauvais at1:20,000. Text describing 'Geognosie' is in another inset. The legend is on another quarter sheet, but a recent A4 manuscript in biro and crayon provides the information. In good condition.

Carte Topographique et Agronomiques de l'Arrondisement de Toul, 1860 (Toul is on the R.Moselle near Nancy in NE France). Scale is 1:80,000. Hand-coloured (water colour and inks) engraving 109 x 77.5 cm (43"x30.5") shows soil parent materials, permeability and locates quarries. Cut, mounted on linen and folded in card wrapper that slides into box with titled on edge for keeping on book shelf. The map is in excellent condition. The box, covered in dark blue buckram, is worn along edges and bumped at the corners, but intact and in fair to good condition.

All 46 x 34cm, scale 1:100,000, hand coloured fold out maps, in a booklet, Cartes Geologiques, by Pillet, 1865,18 pages. The essay discusses the state of geological mapping in France and advocates use of larger scales and inclusion of Quaternary deposits of which his third map is an example. He considered the omission of Quaternary deposits an 'anomalie bizzarre' and envisaged these deposits shown on a transparent overlay to the conventional solid map. Chambery is in the Savoie region. In very good condition
