John Murray, London, 2 vol. 655 + 652pp. Hardback with embossed green cloth covered boards and spine with gilt lettering and illustration. Vol. 1 cover complete but detached and hinges half split. Vol. 2, intact but hinges weak and endpapers split. Text is age toned but clean. Bookplate of Robert Frost – probably not the poet. This edition was unrevised and in preparation at the time of Lyell’s death. There is a brief foreword by his nephew. Vol 1 in poor to fair condition; vol 2 in fair to good condition.
