Longman, London. 349 pp. Hardback, 22 x 15 cm, original embossed leather half binding to marbled paper-covered boards, slightly soiled and worn, but binding sound. Matching marbled end papers, but much brighter than cover’s. Text clean with faint foxing of plates transferred to contacting pages. In good to very good condition. Appendix A, ‘Geological Sketch’, pp. 278-318, includes a folding-out hand-coloured geological map, 21 x 28 cm, at 1”=3 miles (1:190,080) which is clean and bright and covers south of the River Avon, as far east as Bristol and southward to a road linking Emborrow through Cheddar to the sea at Uphill. In addition several caverns and their contents are described at length with wood cut sections for those at Uphill, Hutton and Banwell. The geological information is derived from Buckland, Conybeare and Weaver. Map is in very good to fine condition.
