A Map of Ireland to Accompany the Report of the Railway Commissioners shewing the Principal Physical Features and Geological Structures of the Country. 1838. Scale 1:633,600. 98 x 67 cm. Hand-coloured engraving. Flat with centre-fold from original atlas  where of north and south halves are joined. In very good condition. The geological map is a reduction of original six sheet geological map at an inch to four miles (1:253,660) often referred to as Griffith’s map after the Richard Griffith whose engraved signature is on the map.

Together with the Atlas title page (67 x 49 cm), and all other map plates accompanying the report of the Irish Railway Commission. These showed proposed railway lines, population density, traffic volumes, passenger traffic volumes  in Ireland, and communications between England and Ireland. All black on white, 1838. Scale 1:633,600. 98 x 67 cm. Flat with centre-fold from original atlas and where overlapping join of north and south halves. In very good condition. These maps employed cartographic techniques for traffic volumes which were more than a century ahead of their time.
