Handwritten submission containing original coloured maps and sections, drawings of fossils ‘in the author’s collection’ and tipped-in photographs taken by the author. In green cloth-covered hard-back with spring-clamp ‘binding’. With pencilled comments by instructor or interviewer. The student was Maurice.Black (1904-1973) who went up to Cambridge in the 1920s eventually taking a PhD there. He lectured there and at Princeton. His sedimentary rock collection at the Sedgwick Museum is known as the Maurice Black collection. The interviewer’s note records Booth School, York, age 18 yrs. 4 months. The quality of the observations and illustrations indicates a very precocious geologist. Unique. In good to very good condition.
