Identified on spine as Buckland volumes 1 and 2, and Bridgewater Treatises, volumes 7 and 8. Hardback, 23 x 14.5 cm, original light brown calf half-binding with embossed marbled cloth-covered boards. Gilt lettering and decoration to spine. Shelfwear to edges, slightly scuffed, corners bumped. Leather worn with splits at hinge ends, but hinges and binding are tight and sound. Marbled end-papers. Text clean but occasional limited foxing on plate edges. Fold-out schematic section of crust, 22 x 121 cm, hand-coloured, bright, slightly age-toned with tears beginning on some folds. In good condition. This is a late issue of the 1st edition which includes ‘Supplementary Notes to the first and second editions of Dr.Buckland’s Bridgewater Treatises’, pp 597-618, dated 1837 and including an additional plate of a dinotherium discovered in 1836. The plates are numbered 1 to 69 and the explanations cover 69 plates, but at the base of the plate list it states that there are 87 plates, which is the number quoted in most sellers’ descriptions.
