London: Longman et al. 381 + 27 plates at back of which 1 is a foldout hand-coloured horizontal section, and 26 are fossil plates (there are 26 fossil plates listed and shown, but there is a gap between the last fossil plate, no. 26, and the horizontal section, plate 28). A frontispiece (un-numbered) is a fold out hand-coloured map, Index Map of the Geology of Wales and its neighbourhood, (43 x 46cm) at 1:633,600 (1” =10mi). Hardback, rebound in Survey’s embossed blue cloth covers with original greenish brown spine glued on, gilt lettering and Survey crest. Considerable shelf wear with bumped corners and fraying with loss at top and base of spine and tears across spine, but binding sound. Ex-library with label to front endpaper and stamp on back of title page. Owner signature, on retained free endpaper, of George Maw FGS, Benthall Hall, Broseley, Shropshire. Pages clean with light age-toning apart from last fossil plate which is foxed. Frontispiece is immaculate. This memoir is devoted solely to the Welsh geology with ‘The Geology of North Wales’ (pp1-238) by Andrew C Ramsay with ‘An Appendix on the Fossils [of North Wales], with Plates’ by JW Salter (pp239-381). Cover in fair to good condition. Text and Plates in good to very good condition. Frontispiece and horizontal sections in fine condition.
