Walker, J. & C. 1835. First edition. A Geological Map of England & Wales and Part of Scotland; Showing also the Inland Navigation by Means of Rivers and Canals, with their Elevation in Feet Above the Sea Together with the Rail Roads and Principle Roads. London: J&C Walker, Dec 18 1835 date on map. Hand coloured engraved map 140 x 100cm, cut and mounted on linen folding to 25 x 16cm between green patterned card covers and fitting into the original book-style box covered in dark green pebble-textured cloth with gilt bands and title on red leather on spine. Marbled fore-edge effect.
Because of the Dec. 12th,1835 date, this map is often partially attributed to James Knipe, who had been in partnership with the Walkers but fell out with them after their first and only jointly produced map which covered only England and Wales, also dated Dec. 18th, 1835, This is the first edition, 2nd issue, of this map, distinguishable by the relocation of tidal information from the left to the right side of the map, and likely issued early in 1836.
