(c1864*). ‘A Geological Sketch of the Avon District’ pp 17-38 within  The Handbook for Visitors to the Bristol and Clifton Hotwells, Bristol: Chilcot, 60pp. Hardback, with blue embossed cloth-laminated board with gilt lettering to cover. Fold-out hand-coloured ‘Section of the Clifton Rocks on the North Side of the River Avon, from Sea Mills to the Hot Wells’, 49.5 x 17cm. Cover worn, spine sound, text age-toned but clean, section slightly foxed. In good condition.

          Includes chemical analysis of the hotsprings. Etheridge, R. (1819-1903) was curator of the Bristol Institution’s Museum of Natural History and later palaeontologist for the Geological Survey and the British Museum. His son also Robert Etheridge (1846-1920) joined the Geological Survey of Victoria in 1866.
