Thorpe, Edward (1923). Essays in Historical Chemistry. London: MacMillan, 3rd 601 pp. Reprint of 3rd edition of 1911. First published 1894. Hardback. Blue cloth-covered embossed boards with gilt lettering to spine and gilt crest to cover. Minor wear, binding firm. Presentation bookplate (1928) inside cover. Text age-toned but clean with occasional pencil lines. In good condition.

The essays are focussed on individuals who substantially influenced the course of chemistry. The accounts are more personal narrative and chemistry is treated briefly as it advances each story. Of principal interest in association with mineralogy are Watt, Priestly and Lavoisier although this is scarcely mentioned apart from Lavoisier’s involvement with Guettard’s Mineralogical Atlas of France.
