Brown embossed cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering to spine. Bumped with limited shelf-wear. Spine chipped at top and base Binding sound although rear end paper split along hinge. Text age-toned but clean and unmarked. Plates are slightly foxed. Of the seven fold-out plates, the larger ones, nos 1 and 36, are torn along folds but complete. Plate 1 is a long hand coloured fold out section exemplifying known geological structures at the time of the original publication in 1823 through all periods, omitting glaciation. 1860 neat manuscript dedication on front free end paper. In fair to good condition.

This is a posthumous publication, edited by Frank Buckland, his son, with additions by Richard Owen and John Phillips. A table at the end compares Wm. Buckland’s formations to ‘modern’ ones. In this edition, volume two is the plate volume containing all of the plates of the original two volumes with descriptions. In the original publication there were 87 plates.
