Very bumped corners and extreme wear to all cover edges. Cloth spine largely perished and hinges frayed and weak. The text is clean with wide margins. Pp. 53-58 corners torn with slight loss of text to pp. 55-56. Six engraved plates have marked water damage and limited foxing. In poor to fair condition. Rare; only 3 institutional copies found. Burmeister’s original was published in 1843. The Ray Society was instituted in 1844.
