From White Edge, 3 miles N of St. John’s Chapel; Weardale through Lintzgarth Common, Wolsingham Park Moor, Cornsay, Esh, Witton Gilbert, Framwell gate and Pittington Moorsley, Haswell and Hawthorn, to the Coast at Beacon Point, 3 miles S of Seaham Harbour. Geological Survey of GB. 1st edition. Located on Old Series one-inch maps 102ne, 103nw & ne.  Hand-coloured engraving, 68 x 99cm, 1:10,560 scale (6”= 1mile). Flat, soiled, age-toned, right edge punched for hanging, minor marginal tears. Library stamp in lower right corner. In fair to good condition.

These hand-coloured engraved ‘horizontal’ sections at six inch to one mile scale were published in the mid 19th century by the Geological Survey of England and Wales. The detailed profiles generally follow the geological dip on the one inch Old Series maps numbered in the upper right hand margin and the  profile locations are shown on these maps which themselves did not include a section.
