Briscoe Ridge, Great Alans Cliffe, Westcoe Hill, Arthington Bank and Addle, the Lower Coal Measures of Chapel Allerton and Leeds; the inlier of the Lower Coal Measures of White Beck, the MCM Temple Newsom, Rothwell, Royds Green, Bottom Boat, Warmfield and Sharleston, to the neighbourhood of Havercroft
. Geological Survey of GB. 1st edition. Located on Old Series one-inch maps 87nw, 92ne  & se, and 93sw.  Hand-coloured engraving, 70 x 98cm, 1:10,560 scale (6”= 1mile). Flat, linen-taped edges, slightly age-toned, slightly soiled. Colours dark but text and lines still legible. Library stamp on back. (coloured 1921). In good to very good condition.

These hand-coloured engraved ‘horizontal’ sections at six inch to one mile scale were published in the mid 19th century by the Geological Survey of England and Wales. The detailed profiles generally follow the geological dip on the one inch Old Series maps numbered in the upper right hand margin and the  profile locations are shown on these maps which themselves did not include a section.
