The British Association for the Advancement of Science usually met in alternate for week-long conferences in different regional cities of the British Isles. The program was ambitious. The excursions consisted of simultaneous options for different interest groups within the BAAS. For geologists: day 1 excursions offered the choice of Alderley Edge or Northwich salt mines; day 2, Worsley collieries or Castleton or Malham Cove and Ingleborough; and after the conference the Lake District or the Isle of Man over several days. Rare BA ephemera, particularly the guides.
