Murchison, Roderick I. and Geikie, Archibald (1861). First Sketch of a New Geological Map of Scotland. Edinburgh: W.& A.K.Johnston. 1st edition. Scale 1: 1,584,000 (1 inch = 25 miles) colour printed lithograph 43.5 x 37cm, folding to 21.5 x 13cm within red embossed cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on front. Colours bright, paper clean, but split on all folds and requires reassembly by mounting on linen or by taping. The cover boards are worn, were parted and long ago repaired from the inside with brown cloth tape. Two library labels, including Bibliotheque de Jules Marcou, pasted inside front cover. 22 page First Sketch of a New Geological Map of Scotland with Explanatory Notes pages are loose but complete with manuscript dedication initialled by RIM to a ‘----- D’Archon, Membre d l’Institute de la ------.’  (blanks were not legible). Map panels and text of Notes are in good condition to repair.

Overall in poor condition but interesting provenance. Would greatly improve with expert repair.
