Oswald, Felix (1914). A Geological Map of the Caucasus, 1:1,000,000 scale. Colour lithograph, 51 x 137.5cm, on linen-backed paper folded to 51 x 36cm. Slightly soiled and age-toned, slight wear along folds and tear on centre-fold into top margin neatly repaired. Library stamp within title block. In good condition. Heights on map are in ‘English Feet’. The coverage extends along the Caucasus Mountain Range from the Sea of Azov to the Caspian Sea. At the time of publication the area was part of the Russian Empire, subsequently in the USSR and currently includes parts of Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Together with Oswald’s 1914 Explanatory Notes to Accompany the Geological Map of the Caucasus, London: Dulau & Co, 16pp. Original paper covered booklet bound blue cloth-covered hard back with gilt lettering to spine, includes c.80 blank pages to fill binding. Original booklet in good condition with library stamps on cover. Library hardcover and extra pages as new.
Oswald (1866-1958) was Probate Registrar at the University of Nottingham at the time of publication. There is no date or other publishing information on the map. The accompanying booklet appears to have been privately published.
