Text clean but age toned. Tears to title and half title pages of v.2 with no loss to printed area, otherwise in very good condition. Vol. 1 (660pp) is organised stratigraphically with detailed accounts illustrated by numerous black and white photographic plates and frequent diagrams. Geological predecessors have portraits and brief descriptions in chapter 3, ‘the Homeric Age’, and throughout the text where their researches are encountered. Vol. 2, pt 2 titled ‘Yorkshire from a Railway Carriage window’, includes 18(!) routes. Pt 3 ‘Specimen Days’ has a further 99 routes, all with illustrations.The two volumes are well indexed. A classic work in good condition.
