Buckland, William, 1837. Geology and Mineralogy, Considered with Reference to Natural Theology. 2 volumes, 2nd edition. Publ. Wm. Pickering, London. 618pp + 129pp + 70 plates. Hardback, 23 x 15 cm, original dark blue  paper-covered boards. Title paste on labels to spines foxed to poor legibility; vol. 2’s is detached  but enclosed. Bumped, but shelf wear to edges is slight. Spine ends frayed. Hinges and bindings are sound. Signatures of three owners inside front cover of vol. 1 and earlier book-sellers pencil notes inside front covers of both volumes. Text clean. Larger fold-out plates and plates adjacent to them are foxed but other plates are clean. Fold-out schematic section of the earth’s crust, 22 x 121 cm, hand-coloured, bright and clean. In good condition.

‘Supplementary Notes’, pp 597-619, contain corrections and updates to the date of publication. The plates are numbered 1 to 69 and the explanations cover 69 plates, but at the base of the plate list it states that there are 87 plates, which is the number quoted in most sellers’ descriptions.
