Charles Schuchert (1858-1942), Professor at Yale and Director of Peabody Museum, pioneered the field of paleogeography. He famously mapped ancient North American seas through several eras, essentially based on Wm. Smith’s principles. Sheppard is an early comprehensive reference source for William Smith, with facsimiles and reductions of most of his published works.
